One Task, Many Hands: Oracle Journeys Just Got a Powerful Multi Performer Upgrade!

Introduction

In real HR processes, one task is not always completed by one person.

A single activity may need:

  1. Input from the employee
  2. Review from the manager
  3. Final validation from HR
  4. Correction or confirmation from another stakeholder

Earlier, this often meant creating multiple journey tasks or designing workaround flows.

Now, Oracle Journeys introduces a cleaner option: Multiple Stage Performer.

With this feature, one journey task can move through multiple performers in a defined sequence. Each person completes their part, and the same task moves to the next performer.

Simple, structured, and much easier to track.

What Is Multiple Stage Performer?

Multiple Stage Performer is a new task performer option in Oracle Journeys.

It allows a single journey task to be performed by multiple people, one after another.

For example:

  1. The first performer enters or submits information.
  2. The second performer reviews or adds details.
  3. The third performer completes the final review.

The task is active only for the current performer. Once that performer completes their action, the task moves to the next person in the sequence.

This is very useful when the same task content needs to be completed, reviewed, or updated by more than one person.

Supported Task Types

The Multiple Stage Performer option is available only for these task types:

  1. Configurable Form
  2. Document
  3. External URL
  4. Manual Task
  5. Video

This feature does not apply to every journey task type, so make sure the selected task type is supported before designing the flow.

Where This Feature Can Be Used

This feature is useful for HR processes where one activity needs sequential input or review.

Some practical examples include:

  1. Onboarding feedback
  2. Offboarding clearance
  3. Employee questionnaires
  4. Manager review forms
  5. HR validation tasks
  6. Document review processes
  7. Compliance confirmations
  8. Talent or performance-related journey tasks

Business Use Cases

1. Employee and Manager Questionnaire Review

In a talent or performance-related journey, an employee may first complete a self-assessment questionnaire.

Then:

  1. The manager reviews the employee’s input.
  2. The manager adds evaluation comments.
  3. HR reviews and finalises the responses.

Instead of creating separate tasks for each person, the same task can move through all performers in sequence.

2. Offboarding Form with Employee, Manager, and HR Input

Offboarding usually needs input from multiple people.

For example:

  1. The employee provides departure details and transition notes.
  2. The manager reviews pending work and confirms asset return.
  3. HR completes payroll, benefits, and exit interview-related actions.

With Multiple Stage Performer, this can be handled as one coordinated task.

3. Review and Correction of Submitted Information

Sometimes, a later performer may find that the information entered earlier is incomplete or incorrect.

In that case:

  1. The later performer can return the task to the previous performer.
  2. A comment or reason can be provided.
  3. The previous performer can update the information.
  4. The task can then continue in the sequence.

This makes the correction flow more controlled and transparent.

Why This Feature Matters

This enhancement is useful because it reflects how HR work happens in real life.

Key benefits include:

  1. Reduces the need to create multiple separate tasks.
  2. Supports one task with multiple sequential performers.
  3. Improves visibility into who needs to act next.
  4. Helps later performers review information entered earlier.
  5. Supports return and correction flows with comments.
  6. Keeps the journey experience cleaner and easier to follow.
  7. Works well for onboarding, offboarding, talent, compliance, and document review scenarios.

Configuration Overview

The configuration starts by selecting the new performer option called Multiple Stage Performer for the journey task.

After selecting this performer, you can add stages to the same task.

Each stage represents one performer in the sequence.

In this example, two performer stages are added for an onboarding feedback task:

  1. Stage 1: Worker enters the feedback.
  2. Stage 2: HR Specialist reviews the feedback.

How It Works for the Worker

When the journey is assigned, the task appears under the employee’s tasks.

The worker can:

  1. Open the task.
  2. Enter feedback.
  3. Add comments.
  4. Mark the task as done.

Once the worker completes the task, it moves to the next performer in the sequence.

How It Works for the HR Specialist

After the worker completes their stage, the task moves to the HR Specialist.

The HR Specialist can:

  1. Review the feedback entered by the worker.
  2. Add comments.
  3. Return the task if correction is needed.
  4. Mark the task as done.

Once the HR Specialist completes the task, the task is completed because there are only two performer stages in this example.

Steps to Add Multiple Performers in a Journey Task

To configure multiple performers for a journey task, follow these steps:

  1. Go to My Client Groups > Journeys Setup > Journey Templates.
  2. Select the required journey template.
  3. In the Tasks section, edit the task where multiple performers need to be added.
  4. Select the performer as Multiple Stage Performer.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Select the performer and confirm.
  7. This becomes the first stage of the task for the selected performer.
  8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to add more performers in sequence.
  9. Reorder the sequence after adding the performers, if needed.
  10. Select the task type.
  11. Click Save.

Once configured, the task moves from one performer to the next based on the defined stage sequence.

Tips and Considerations

Before using this feature, keep the following points in mind:

  1. This feature is for one task performed by multiple people sequentially.
  2. You can add a maximum of five performer stages per task.
  3. The same performer should not be repeated in the stages.
  4. Oracle Search needs to be enabled for this feature.
  5. The task is not marked as completed until all stages are completed.
  6. When a task with multiple stages is reassigned, only the current stage is reassigned.
  7. When a task is reopened, all stages restart from the first stage.
  8. When a task is returned, it goes back to the immediately preceding stage.
  9. Alert notifications are sent only to the current stage performer.
  10. If a performer stage is rejected, all subsequent stages are moved to the same status.
  11. A task is visible only to the current performer.
  12. This performer option does not apply to Native Electronic Signature, DocuSign, I-9 Verification, Advanced Task, and Oracle Process Automation Process Task.

Conclusion

The Multiple Stage Performer feature is a small but powerful improvement in Oracle Journeys.

It allows one task to move through multiple performers in sequence, without creating separate tasks for each person.

This makes journey design:

  1. Cleaner
  2. Easier to track
  3. More practical for real HR processes
  4. Better suited for sequential review and correction flows

For onboarding, offboarding, compliance, document review, and talent processes, this feature can reduce workarounds and create a smoother journey experience for everyone involved.
