Oracle Learning continues to evolve, offering users enhanced flexibility and control over their learning journeys. One such enhancement is the ability to retake a previously completed course or self-paced learning activity without requiring a learning administrator to reassign it. This new feature simplifies the process and ensures that learners can revisit and reinforce their understanding as needed. Let’s dive into the details of this functionality and how it can benefit both learners and organizations.

Key Features of the Retake Functionality
Retaking a Self-Paced Learning Course
For self-paced content that you’ve previously completed, the Take Again action allows you to re-enroll and begin anew. Once enrolled, the course’s activities are reset to the “Not Started” status, enabling you to go through the material as if for the first time. This applies to courses with single or multiple offerings:
- Single Offering: Clicking Take Again automatically enrolls you in the course and offering, creating new assignments.
- Multiple Offerings: Clicking Take Again redirects you to a self-enrollment page with a list of all available offerings, including those you’ve already completed. You can select any relevant offering to retake.

Retaking an Instructor-Led Course
For instructor-led or blended offerings:
- If you’ve completed a specific session, you won’t see the option to re-enroll in that same session as it has already occurred.
- However, you can enroll in other upcoming sessions of the course through the self-enrollment page.
Transcript Updates
Each retake is recorded in your transcript, ensuring that all completion data is preserved and easily accessible for future reference.
Steps to Enable the Retake Functionality
To enable this feature, administrators need to configure the ORA_WLF_ALLOW_RETAKE_REDWOOD_PAGES_ENABLED profile option at the site level. There are three settings available:
- Yes – Passed or Failed Completion: Allows learners to retake courses regardless of whether they passed or failed the first time. Applies to completions in Completed, Bypass Completed, or Not Passed statuses.
- Yes – Only Passed Completion: Allows learners to retake courses only if they successfully met the passing criteria. Applies to completions in Completed or Bypass Completed statuses.
- No (Default): Learners cannot retake courses they’ve completed. Reassignment by a manager or learning administrator is required.
Simplified User Experience
The Take Again action appears on the following pages:
- Enrollment Details Page
- Hover Card
- Catalog Details Page (for courses, offerings, and self-paced learning)
This ensures that learners can quickly identify and access the option to retake a course.
Tips and Considerations
- The Take Again action is visible only for courses and self-paced learning activities. It does not apply to specialization enrollment details pages.
- Retaking a course helps learners revisit material at their convenience, fostering a more flexible and personalized learning experience.
Why This Matters
This enhancement empowers learners to take ownership of their learning paths. Whether refreshing knowledge, improving skills, or meeting new requirements, the ability to retake courses provides unmatched flexibility. For organizations, it ensures that their workforce remains agile, knowledgeable, and well-prepared to meet challenges.
